Creating a successful LOP

Like any other type of communication, Letters of Proposal (LOPs) need to be
clear and compelling.  It must be easy for a client to see
the benefits of
w
orking with you.

But if you haven’t created an LOP before, it can be somewhat intimidating.
Here are some basic questions that can help guide you through the process
and ensure that your proposal is leveraging the experience of your
organization:

  • Did you spend the appropriate amount of time identifying the core issues
for the client?  Do you talk about the client first?

  • Do you demonstrate your distinctive capabilities throughout the
proposal?  Why are you best for the work?  How are you truly different
    from your competition?

  • Have you tailored the proposal to the client?  Or is it all boilerplate?

  • Do you use plain, practical language?  Have you used the client’s
    language and communication preferences?

  • Is your delivery method as distinctive and creative as your services?
